Hover Plinth | 2013 | mixed | 16”x16”x50”

This piece is a questionably-engineered project aimed at solving a problem of modern sculpture: do you hang it from the ceiling or set it on the floor? In response to this dilemma, my plinth hovers 1mm above the floor. Responding to a viewer’s proximity through a motion sensor, Hover Plinth switches on and floats aimlessly but noisily around the gallery space.
